OLDENDORFF WELCOMES CAPESIZE BULKER GINA OLDENDORFF

OLDENDORFF has named its latest Capesize newbuild after Australian mining magnate Gina Rinehart.
The German shipping company recently welcomed Liberia-flagged MV Gina Oldendorff with a ceremony at Namura Shipyard in Japan.
The 182,000-dwt bulk carrier, painted in “Pilbara red”, will transport iron ore out of Port Hedland from Ms Rinehart’s flagship mining company Roy Hill.
“Oldendorff carried the first shipment of iron ore from Roy Hill in December 2015, and since then has carried more than 46.6 million tonnes of Roy ore over 244 shipments, as well as shipments from Atlas,” Roy Hill said in a statement.
“Mrs Rinehart when christening the ship wished the vessel and all its crew many safe journeys, and many happy returns.”
Oldendorff Gina Oldendorff and sister ship Alice Oldendorff (delivered in November) are to be retrofitted with exhaust gas cleaning systems from Yara Marine Technologies.
Oldendorff ordered the two vessels in 2021. It said their very low fuel consumption will result in lower carbon emissions.
