The City of Perth will be the place to be this New Year’s Eve and Australia Day 2024 thanks to a partnership with Hancock Prospecting and Roy Hill.

Having played a significant role in the 2023 City of Lights series, Hancock Prospecting and Roy Hill has stepped up again thanks to the generosity and keen support of Executive Chairman, Mrs Gina Rinehart AO, partnering on two of the City’s most popular events.

Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the free shows were wildly popular last summer and were expected to again be a hit with families and visitors alike.

“The way we mark Australia Day in the City has changed over recent years with a move away from Skyworks towards this year’s City of Light show, which entertained crowds of more than 50,000 people with a combination of fireworks and drones,” Mr Zempilas said.

“I am delighted that Hancock Prospecting has once again agreed to come on board as a naming right partner for this event.”

The Hancock Prospecting City of Light Show will take place on 26 January 2024 at Langley Park in the City.

Mr Zempilas said the City was also pleased to have Roy Hill as a presenting partner for its New Year’s Eve celebrations.

“Elizabeth Quay became the centre for our family New Year’s Eve celebrations with a fun fair and an early fireworks show for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to Roy Hill, we’re bringing that program back to ring out 2023,” he said.

“We’ll also mark the start of 2024 in Northbridge with the traditional fireworks at midnight.”

It has been a significant period highlighting the strong partnership between the City of Perth, Hancock Prospecting, and Roy Hill. It began with a special event marking the successful trial of technology installed on one of the City’s waste trucks which will dramatically enhance safety and save lives.

In a special announcement, Mrs Rinehart committed to rolling out the technology, which leverages the expertise of Roy Hill’s mining operations and vehicle automation safety systems, to the entire City of Perth waste truck fleet.

At the same time, Mrs Rinehart also committed to again being part of the City’s summer series events, which has resulted in Roy Hill becoming presenting partner of the 2023 New Year’s Eve family events, and Hancock Prospecting as the principal partner of the 2024 Australia Day festivities.

“We have a very good relationship with the Lord Mayor, Basil Zempilas and City of Perth. It has been a pleasure for Hancock Prospecting, Roy, Atlas and me to work with the Lord Mayor throughout the City of Light series, including pre-Christmas and New Year’s Eve festivities, as well as for special celebrations for Australia Day earlier this year. It was fantastic to see so many special occasions enjoyed by many, led so enthusiastically by the Lord Mayor. We’re delighted to be again working with the Lord Mayor for future festivities,” Mrs Rinehart said.

“The City of Perth has been revitalised under the leadership, energy, and dedication of Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas, with exciting initiatives and activities, including the delivery of very popular free, family friendly events that everyone can enjoy and come together to celebrate our clean, wonderful riverside city. It is something our companies and I are very delighted to be a part of.”
