Mr. Spiro Pappas

Non-Executive Chairman

Mr Spiro Pappas is a former senior executive of NAB. In his almost 10 years at NAB, Spiro performed several leadership roles including Executive General Manager of Global Institutional Banking, CEO of Asia and Executive General Manager of International and Innovation.  

Prior to NAB, Spiro spent over 2 years in London and New York with Deutsche Bank and then 11 years in London with ABN AMRO/RBS where he managed a number of global businesses including Debt Capital Markets, Client Coverage for Financial Institutions and Corporate Finance and Advisory. 

Mr Pappas has also served on the Advisory Board of both the Australia China Business Council and the Australia Japan Business Cooperation Council and is a Board Member of the European Australian Business Council.  He is currently the Chairman of Atlas Iron, Splitit (a global payments Fintech) and Cognian Technologies (an innovative Australian wireless lighting technology company).

Spiro was also recently a member of a taskforce advising the Federal Government on how to enable the SME sector for the digital age

Prof. Ian Plimer

Non-Executive Director

Prof. Ian Plimer is Emeritus Professor at The University of Melbourne where he was Professor and Head (1991-2005). He was Professor and Head of Geology (University of Newcastle 1985-1991), DFG Professor at Ludwig Maximilians Universität (Munich, 1991) and Professor of Mining Geology (University of Adelaide 2005-2012). Professor Plimer has published more than 130 scientific papers, edited the five volume Encyclopedia of Geology and is author of eleven books for the general public, the best known of which are Telling Lies for God (1994) and Heaven and Earth (2009). His latest book, Climate Delusion and the Great Electricity Ripoff was released in late 2017. He has won numerous national and international awards for his contributions to science and the mining industry.

He currently serves as an independent non-executive director on the boards of the unlisted Roy Hill Holdings, Queensland Coal Investments, Hope Downs Iron Ore, Hancock Beef Food (Shanghai), Hanrine Exploration and Mining Ecuador and HPXploration and the listed companies Lakes Oil NL (ASX:LKO) and Niuminco Group Ltd (ASX:NIU). He has previously sat on the boards of the TSX/ASX-listed Ivanhoe Australia Ltd, AIM-listed Kefi Minerals plc and Angus and Ross Plc and ASX-listed CBH Resources Ltd, Kimberley Metals Ltd, Silver City Minerals Ltd, TNT Mines Ltd and Sun Resources NL. He also gives up to 20 lectures are year as well as running field trips for universities.

Mr. Tad Watroba

Non-Executive Director

Forty years’ total experience in both open cut and underground mining, encompassing mining operations, mine planning, feasibility studies, project financial evaluation, negotiations with government and non-government organizations, business development, joint venture participation, project commissioning, exploration management, audits and other related activities.

Mr Watroba has worked in iron ore, manganese, gold, brown and black coal, oil shale, copper, zinc and lead and was employed by Bechtel and several small-to-medium sized gold companies prior to joining HPPL in 1991. Mr Watroba has broad and significant experience with mining projects in Australia, Papua New Guinea (Ok Tedi), China and New Zealand.

Current commitments include Executive Director – Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd and various directorships of related bodies corporate.

Mr. Stephen Wood

Non-Executive Director

Mr Stephen Wood has had a long career in public service in both Federal and Western Australian Governments. He is the former Director General of the Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and the Chief Executive Officer of the Tourism Commission. Prior to that he was the Director General of the Department of State Development from 2011 to 2017, and served for a decade as a Member of the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission. His expertise particularly in resources development, international trade and government will be an asset to Atlas. Mr Wood holds a Bachelor degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Public Administration.

Mr. Johan Dyrnes

Non-Executive Director

Mr Dyrnes commenced his career with Norwegian Cruise Lines and worked for several maritime concerns before being appointed Master and Captain of the world’s largest privately-owned residential yacht, The World. Mr Dyrnes is a director of S. Kidman & Co Pty Ltd, Future Fields Pty Ltd and House of Pure Excellence AS.
