The McPhee Creek project has the potential to underpin a step-change in Atlas’ production capability in the North Pilbara. Iron enrichment was discovered on the main range at McPhee Creek by Giralia Resources in September 2009. Since the acquisition of Giralia by Atlas in early 2011 the total known Mineral Resources have grown to over 240Mt (32.9Mt Measured, 205Mt Indicated and 9Mt Inferred).
Iron enrichment at McPhee Creek occurs as hematite-goethite supergene enrichment over banded iron formation along an 8km strike length. DSO grade mineralisation is present at or near surface over a broad area.
In 2014 a Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) was undertaken. The result of the PFS was a 15Mtpa deslime wet processing plant trucking the ore to a hub located south of Corunna Downs. From there the ore would be railed to Port Hedland.
McPhee Creek is located around 65km east of Corunna Downs which is ideally located as a blending hub between the two sites.
An Ore Reserve of 188Mt (29.7Mt Proved and 158.5Mt Probable) was estimated based on the PFS study.
